Alpha Wolf – Golden Fate; Water Break (Track Of The Day, 10th July)

If you missed it, I reviewed the new Alpha Wolf album Mono (releasing July 14th). A stand-out during the review was “Golden Fate; Water Break”, which has today been released as the last single from Mono in the lead-up to its release. You can catch the review HERE.

If you’ve already been soaking up Alpha Wolf’s singles from Mono so far, you’ll notice the title similarity to “Golden Fate; Gut Ache”. Both tracks share the theme of grieving the loss of someone. Mono is heavy in the sense of its sound as well as the emotional topics shared in its tracks.

From the review:

“It’s a tough track to listen to, feeling into its sense of disbelief at the loss of someone beloved (with ‘water break’ we could maybe assume a mother connection). I can barely acknowledge the impressiveness of the vocals and guitars in the face of this overwhelming grief.

“I’ve got this hole in my chest
It’s missing you I swear
Please come back home to me”

There is something so raw and intimate here. It is as though something that would ordinarily be locked up has been prised open and allowed to leak out. The metaphors used lyrically and the force of heaviness feel like safe ways to be with the dark agony. But regardless it is pain-laden, real and impressive.”

The way the video for the track has been shot, blending footage of the band playing with footage of a person who is struggling to cope after a death, has captured both the energy Alpha Wolf pour into their music, as well as the mental/inner noise and overwhelm involved in coping in the aftermath.

Check out “Golden Fate; Water Break”, and whet your appetite for Mono when it releases on 14th July.
