I’ve been waiting for this; something new from Young Lions.
I’ve been blissfully obsessed with Young Lions since hearing “Out Of The Dark”. Every track I’ve heard since from the Brisbane trio (Zach Britt, Morgan Castle and Matt Gibson) has been just as real and moving. To say that I can’t wait for their upcoming album Mr. Spaceman (releasing 8th August) would be an understatement.
“Superhuman” was released today, aligned deliberately with the full moon (and the space theme Mr. Spaceman). The band used breathtaking footage from the Hubble space telescope in the music video, giving an eerie otherworldly distance to the words being sung warmly while we absorb these scenes.
“All we do is glisten, cause we’re superhuman”
Each of the songs I’ve heard from Young Lions has seemed to take an enlightened (for lack of a better description) perspective of life, and the space theme works well with this. It is as if the songs are being created after powerful experiences of realisation, high above the static and confusion of humanity, and those experiences are then channelled into song.
“Look inside your mind’s eye and tell me what you find”
And honestly, if you feel into these songs, there’s a powerful ‘YES’-ness to the messages being shared. In “Superhuman” the stand-out lyrics are in its bridge, as we are powerfully called to find things that have us feel alive, as opposed to what we may think we need (ie. a new religion).
The same message is there in “Burn The Money”, heard most blatantly in the introduction of the video with a section of the speech by Alan Watts relating to following what you TRULY want to do, and forgetting the money.
I cannot love this enough. It’s truly inspirational to see these messages being shared; finding what you love, finding what makes you actually FEEL something (you glistening, superhuman, you) and is something meaningful to you.
Cannot. Wait. For. Mr. Spaceman.
Here’s “Superhuman”, which is brand new, but undoubtedly had to be our Track Of The Day.
