Track Of The Day today comes from hardcore punk group Stick To Your Guns. Insert flame emoji here.
Stick To Your Guns’ EP Better Ash Than Dust is a five track heavy masterpiece from start to finish. The fourth on the EP, “The Never Ending Story”, is a wake-up call and carries the theme of the EP; best captured in the Jack London quote:
“I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time.”
Stick To Your Guns passionately subscribe to the idea that each of us has an obligation to move through our days with purpose and fire, never becoming complacent or hollow. This is an important message and is backed up with a sound that is just as aflame and powerful as their message.
“The Never Ending Story” acknowledges the burnt out state of a person and how their meaningless existence pokes at them, despite having ‘nothing left to give‘ and ‘no reason left to live’.
Impactfully and directly, they insist that the person who is just going through the motions of life need to..
“Just give a fuck about something, mother fucker!”
The passion and power Stick To Your Guns put into their music is clear and the Better Ash Than Dust is well worth the listen. I also can’t wait to hear the new music which the band are currently working on.
