Wait, this is just two guys?
Fresh new Melbourne band Slow Talk are the product of the creative forces of James Butler (vocals) and Ash Fuller (guitarist). Sounding and feeling like they have the backing of a full band behind them, Slow Talk have just released single “Golden”. The track is a first taste of their upcoming debut EP New Vernacular which releases on 27th April.
In Ash’s words, “Golden” is “an exploration of our desire for people that physically fit the ideals we look for in a partner, whether they be people we briefly encounter in our daily lives, models we see on Instagram, or celebrities. It discusses our ability to extrapolate the little we know of these people and develop high opinions of them.”
Fluid and escapist in sound, with layered pieces and searching guitars, “Golden” unfolds with gentle observations of life. Distorted and with overlapping sounds feeling like coverings, the track’s more expansive choruses feel refreshing, as does the lyrical admission of “maybe I dreamed you up in my head”.
