Sleeping At Last – Atlas: Heart (Track Of The Day, 23rd April)

One of our Twitter friends (Candice) shared Sleeping At Last with us, and we were immediately spellbound by their sound: Beautiful and immersing, making it very easy to be swept away and lost inside the world of these tracks.

Sleeping At Last is new to us, so we did some homework. The human behind the name Sleeping At Last is Ryan O’Neal, who is based in Chicago. We weren’t surprised at all to learn that Ryan has extensively lent his stirring and expressive sounds to documentaries, movies and television shows. There is also the impressive Atlas project, which is an innovative way to release music, with clearly a huge amount of heart, thought, and care going into each track.

With all of this said, it seemed like a no-brainer to have “Atlas:Heart” as our Track Of The Day, which was released 29th March. Ryan has put a lot of love into this track as well as explaining about its creation in detail, you can absorb that here: http://www.sleepingatlast.com/blog/2017/3/23/heart

“I am short of breath
Standing next to you.
I’ll be the dangerous ledge
You be the parachute.

To us, Atlas:Heart is one of the most beautiful things we’ve heard, and feels like a nervous joyfulness before leaping, exactly as Ryan described:

“I liked the idea of using heights as a main lyrical theme in this song, because putting ourselves in positions of great heights is risky and dangerous – we fly in airplanes, we climb mountains, we stand inside skyscrapers – all requires a significant amount of risk and trust. I think that’s an accurate description of love. At our best, we go to truly great lengths and heights for the ones we love – simply because our hearts tell us to.”

It’s goosebump and feeling-so-deeply-you-might-become-tearful material. Have a listen here.
