Saviour – Empty Skies (Track Of The Day, 16th November)

Perth band Saviour are back with new music!

After the release of Let Me Leave the band seems to have gone through a significant line-up change. Social media posts farewell Lyndsay, Jordan and Tylar, and welcome Michael Matta and Chris Pearce to the band.

Yesterday the five piece released a new track, giving a curious taste of what’s to come. “Empty Skies” is our Track Of The Day.

From the beginning “Empty Skies” feels hauntingly beautiful, and as shown in the video, is a blend of attempted connection and glittery fantasy. The “empty skies” metaphor seeming to reflect the glamour and facade that the real selves hide behind.

“And then we lose ourselves
And lose the spark
To find ourselves
Inside the dark
It’s too late
Where did our lives go?”

“Empty Skies” is incredible, with impeccable vocals from Shontay that seem to reach out in compassion yet without pressure. There’s desperation to get through to someone in Bryant’s emotion rich vocals. Beautiful searching guitar hits sky high peaks in wanting more, and the looped ending brilliantly expresses a state of stuckness; holding onto the flashy and glittery things instead of the real. And unconditionally waiting for them to ‘come back’.

Just beautiful.

What’s your take on “Empty Skies”?
