Columbus, Ohio based band My Ticket Home have our Track Of The Day today. Fans of the four piece have been waiting patiently since Strangers Only (2013) for some new ‘puke rock’, and they will be getting their wish with new album Unreal (releasing 6th October) via Spinefarm Records.
Nick, Derek, Marshal and Matt released new single “Thrush” on 11th August and it instantly made itself at home with my 90s grunge-loving roots.
“Follow me, I don’t need no time to stay
Just look at the way we fell”
The raw-feeling production reminded me of early Regurgitator (“Track 1”), instantly throwing me into their sense of freedom, excitement, and ‘just going for it’. The sense of urgency at “Thrush”‘s chorus mirrored that too.
The verses are so beckoning in their echoing, an immersion into something otherworldly and it’s a pleasure to follow the track as it shifts; gaining and losing fire, falling deep and away in the pre-chorus before smashing into a wall of sound.
The guys of My Ticket Home shared that “Thrush” was a ‘bit of an accident’. “We wrote the song in the studio just days before recording it. But once it was finished, we knew it had to be on the album. It’s our first release in four years, but we felt it was a great first impression for what this record has to offer our fans. High energy, straight to the point, and gonna be fucking awesome to play live.”
Loved the grittiness of “Thrush” and I’m keen to hear more when Unreal drops.
