Far Away Stables – Caldera (New Music)

Sydney’s Far Away Stables have just released a new single in the lead-up to their debut album, Between Rage and Serenity. Far Away Stables are Tim Byles (bass), Mitchell Grace (guitar/vocals), Brendan Sheargold (vocals), Nick Palmer (guitar) and Cam Bury (drums/vocals). The band have previously released two fully sold-out EPs and are gearing up to their May 12th release of Between Rage and Serenity with a new single and music video for “Caldera”.

“Caldera” is quite the introduction to anyone who is new to Far Away Stables. The song brings rock heaviness and emotional rawness together resulting in a sound that’s captivating and hard hitting. The richness and vulnerability of the vocals are placed at the listener’s feet and they’re invited to experience this expression right in front of them.

“What would it take for you to feel this exposed?”

The song is heavy and confronting at first, with grumbling bass and heavy drums at the introduction, before a more ambient space left for the vocals. The song sparks a sense of knowing, as well as a demand for stepping up into something stronger. We looked up the meaning of the word ‘caldera’ and it describes a ‘large volcanic crater left by the major eruption leading to the collapse of the mouth of the volcano’. To us, the significance describes the void left by an intense experience which has left someone changed, from that point on.

“Caldera”s angelic and starlit bridge is incredibly moving, feeling like letting yourself drift into a space of vulnerability. This builds up strongly, with little held back, on all fronts.

“Let it own you, and it will own you
Let it take, and it will borrow
Let it lead, and you will follow
Let it float through your brain
And cage the way it makes you feel tame
The way it shimmers softly at first
Only built to be burst
Is the view better above or below?”

The song closes with a more urgent-feeling pace and a stronger invitation to embrace change. We loved “Caldera” and are keen to see more from Far Away Stables. Check out “Caldera” with the music video and see the guys putting their all into this track.
