Endless Heights – Drain (Track Of The Day, 25th September)

Our Track Of The Day comes from Endless Heights. The Sydney five piece played an impressive and engaging set at BIGSOUND earlier this month, keeping me curious to get to know more of their music.

“Drain” was released together with “Pray I Fade” on 9th December 2016.

In listening to “Drain”, an ethereal introduction slips us into something otherworldly. Eerie and distorted riffs combine with openly voiced lyrics to reveal that we’ve fallen into memories. There’s a weight of feeling bound by life as it has happened to us, and not in a good way.

Shivering and plunged into heartache, there’s a question of how this situation came to life? This isn’t how he thought it would turn out.

“Over and over
My heart on my sleeve
Over and over
I’m struggling to breathe”

Watching her closely, she is/was a lover with an agenda: Seeming to be outwardly soothing, yet holds a fire and a will to hurt, trying to control him, manipulate him, and get under his skin by provoking conflict. He sees her as darkly and powerfully capable of inflicting herself upon him, with mystic forces he doesn’t understand.

The sound is drenched in confusion as well as regret; wanting more than this, and not having seen things for how they truly were.

“Drain” is beautiful and eerie all in one, and the music video does an excellent job of capturing an occult-immersed woman of questionable intent observing and plotting, trying to find her way in.

You can purchase the two tracks of Pray I Fade via Bandcamp HERE.

Australians can get more Endless Heights in their life during their You Coward Tour. Tickets from www.endlessheights.com.
