We love Deadlights. This Brisbane four piece make music that’s heavy, meaningful, and unique in its structure and sound. There’s something addictive about these tracks, where clear and screamed vocals join forces and powerfully share a message.
Our Track Of The Day today is the first track from their album Mesma (released 21st April on Greyscale Records). “Order Without Order” is a perfect album opener; sounding like an alarm before a gritty riff starts. Then it’s ALL ON. It feels like a wake-up call, that demands to be heard, or you’re going to get dragged along on this ride.
“Until I know for sure,
I’m caught between expanding, withdrawing,
And you refuse to respond.
Could I drag you back to life?
Or at least try?”
Deadlights’ lyrics are deserving of recognition, the passion poured into what they’re sharing. The fire is easily felt, along with killer riffs and hectic beats. Let yourself be impacted by this sense of ‘Wake the fuck up and see what’s happening around you and within you’; something that Deadlights express in a number of their songs on Mesma.
Check out “Order Without Order” via Spotify (as well as the entire Mesma album). We’ve also included the lyrics below.
Melbournites can also catch Deadlights next month at Wrangler Studios when they support Alpha Wolf at their launch for their album Mono. Details: https://www.facebook.com/events/1909941809217953/
Lyrics:
Are you open to suggestions?
We can’t stay here bound by the hold of our oppressors,
Who want to see us silenced.
Start from scratch. But where does it end?
How many times can we do it just to fail again and again?
Some things we cannot mend.
But we can try before the chance transcends.
I can’t stay here. Will you follow me?
Would you say no to the opportunity to leave?
Is it too much to ask for you to pick up the slack?
We’re being held back.
If it were only that easy.
It all sounds so simple.
If it were only that easy.
Until I know for sure,
I’m caught between expanding, withdrawing,
& You refuse to respond.
Could I drag you back to life?
Or at least try?
The great divide,
This is what you get when two sides collide.
Have you ever found peace in the back of an eyelid?
Embraced yourself in the colours and reached out like I did?
I didn’t think so, who told you to stay home and lay low?
Teaching your tongue to tip toe.
Grabs the bricks and mortar,
We’ll have order without order.
We are not enslaved.
& If you’re done with these laws from the Stone Age,
Hear my words. Wipe the slate,
‘Cause we won’t last at our current rate.
Shut up,
Re-evaluate.
What’s important to you in this day and age?
Hear my words. Wipe the slate,
Before it’s too late.
Until I know for sure,
I’m caught between expanding, withdrawing,
& You refuse to respond.
Could I drag you back to life?
Or at least try?
The great divide,
This is what you get when two sides collide.
If it were only that easy.
If it were only that…
Easy to leave when the future’s bleak.
It gets harder and harder every day it seems.
Whether or not it’s the right way to go,
It’s the only way I know.
Only way I know.
