Vinyl Theatre – My Fault (Track Of The Day, 21st June)

Something about songs by Vinyl Theatre has them stick with me and stay with me. One of those sticky songs is “My Fault”, which feels like one massive indie rock hook.

“My Fault” is the first track of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin trio’s Origami album, released 5th May. “My Fault” speaks like a man out on a limb, wishing for a hand from someone who is so far away from being present enough to help.

“You always stay in the clouds alone where it seems safe
Is it remission or a mission you made to keep me off pace
I’m facing giants alone but it never seems to get bills paid
I’m only looking for assistance but consistently I’m scared to say”

The track kicks off as a big ball of electro distortion, quietening down when the vocals come in at the first verse. My vibe is that there is a massiveness of sound kept at bay, allowed freedom at the choruses. My ears loved; the simplicity and catchiness of the ‘down… down… down…’ and ‘yeah yeah yeah‘ vocals, the track hugging electronic chords, the bridge that builds up and up, drops into moments of solitude, and the spaciousness given prior to a sweet last chorus.
