You know that feeling of both excitement and frustration when you find an amazing band? Like; “These guys are amazing” and also “Why haven’t I heard them sooner!?”. I get that with Young Lions.
“Out of the Dark” knocked me sideways and teared me up with its beauty, and now that my ears have met “Burn the Money”, Young Lions are two for two. Two impressive tracks and “Why haven’t I heard them sooner!?”, especially given that they’re about to release their third album..
“Burn the Money” is from the upcoming album from Young Lions, Mr. Spaceman. The track was released in March along with a music video.
There’s something so tenderly honest with the vocals of Young Lions (courtesy of Zach Britt) which take on a role of storyteller through these songs. They carry an intrigue; a feeling like “There’s something important being shared here, pay attention”.
In this case the ‘something important’ seems to be inspiring a revolution of moving away from a previous understanding of fame and success and moving into a new way.
“I know we can live like this
I know we can live like this and not give up
I know we can live like this and it’ll all be worth the riskI can show you the way
If you dare to believe me
All you gotta do is
Burn the money”
The song itself also has a storytelling edge, starting subtle at its introduction before expanding gradually into its strong rock self. This works so well, creating a vibe of having been through something very meaningful at the hand of this song and this Brisbane trio.
