Can we talk about this song? It’s brand new yesterday, released along with nine other tracks on You Me At Six‘s Night People (our review is here). We are in love with this track in particular.
“Spell It Out” is one of the darkest tracks on Night People and starts with sad but light guitar and vocals drenched in heaviness. Many of the songs on Night People have the song’s protagonist supporting or attempting to support another, while staying relatively strong. “Spell It Out” is more of a confessional of having a hard time.
Should I spell it out for you?
No one here is bullet, no one is bulletproof
Moving into the second verse, a heart beat of a thumping drum joins in, the vocals gain power and guitar distortion wails. This continues to build and into the following chorus we get an impressively amazing guitar heaviness that I haven’t heard the likes of in a long time. There’s a climbing distortion in the background also and headphones are essential to get lost in this beautiful track.
We’re hooked. Have a listen and see what you think.
