Western Scene – Going Back (New Music)

Californian indie rock band Western Scene have released a lyric video for “Going Back”.

While the video is merely a collection of Google Maps street view images with lyrics overlaid, absorbing the song via the video is suprisingly emotive. The steady beat and even tones of “Going Back”, leading into ambient openness pokes curiously at the feels.

We’re along on the ride with Western Scene as they admit they are reminded of someone in everything they see. The steady stream of map-based escapism feels like a progressively more desperate search for somewhere where they won’t feel this person anymore.

“Don’t fight what you can’t control
This feeling so unusual”

The maps when mirrored to the point of being kaleidoscopic give an edge of un-reality to something that is real. It turns out that the search isn’t ‘out there’ it’s ‘in here’, and the resolution of the original attempt to escape is to not fight this unusual feeling that they are being consumed by.

“Going Back” is so simple on many fronts, yet packs a surprising emotional punch. Check out the lyric video:
