Our Track Of The Day today is a fresh new one from Sydney rockers Speakeasy. The four piece are Matt van Herten, Jack Armstrong, Jack Schramko and Billy Puntton. The track features Antonia Susan on vocals, and is the first single from their new EP which is due for release in 2018.
“Dream Boy” is warm of sound and is easy to listen to. From early on, the ache of unrequited love oozes from the track and we are heavy in emotional angst. Whether waiting in the back yard with flowers or closed up inside the house (and not coming out), there’s a weight of inevitable disappointment, like ‘This probably isn’t going to work out how I wish it would’.
“I’m such a prick, I say what I think
I hate what I am, but I love what you do to me”
The soaring vocal ‘ooh’s, and Antonia’s vocals added to the more defeatist sound of the lead vocals brilliantly capture a tug of war between accepting their (so-called) flaws but also dreaminess in wanting those romantic highs. Is it our imagination or are those dead flowers sitting in the vase in the house? Intentional or not, it adds a ‘same old’ vibe to what’s being shared; the pattern of not being enough for her.
