Semester – Attention (New Music)

If you’re hankering for some emo honesty wrapped up in alt-punk, this will be extremely satisfying.  Brisbane four piece Semester take us into vulnerable admissions in their latest single “Attention”.  It follows on from their debut single “Falling Short” and is a taster of Semester’s upcoming debut EP Character Building (produced by Fletcher Matthews and planned for later in 2018).

Frustratedly and confusedly trying to break through apathy, “Attention” is satisfyingly catchy. It’s refreshingly relatable in its openness; sharing subject matter that might otherwise stay looping around a brain late at night. Confrontational but valid questioning unfolds in the track’s verses, almost pleading to another to ‘just be real’.

“I just wanted attention to make me feel like I’m interesting”

When “Attention” bursts out at the choruses, the track takes on a catchy singalong feel, calling idealist loving-hearted lonely emo moths to its alt-punk flame. Warm and real, “Attention” is an anthem for generous hearts on the verge of giving up on trying to exist in the life of another who is closed tightly.

Stay tuned for a music video for “Attention” next week. In the meantime, check out the track:
