Pleasure Coma – Waiting (New Music)

With a name like Pleasure Coma I thought ‘Jesus, what am I getting into?’ Well no one could tell me, because “Waiting” is their debut single and I was lucky enough to have it put on my metaphorical desk. Well I moved the imaginary coffee mug, and blew the dust off the fictional stack of press releases, to discover something that I’m very pleased to have found.

The New South Wales’ foursome have come together to make quite the fruitful partnership. The band’s upcoming EP Naked will feature “Waiting” and two other unheard tunes. Written entirely in vocalist and guitarist Tasker’s Redfern sharehouse (which can also be seen in the accompanying music video), “Waiting” paints a picture of a bullshit-filled world, otherwise known as the music industry.

“Look at us now, we could be something”

“Look at us now, we could be something” the chorus chants over and over. The track is telling us painful stories of releases being pushed back and back, deals falling through and being told you’re not quite there yet when you know you are. That’s really the struggle with anything, I don’t want to be held back, let me be free and I’ll show you what I can do. I can dig it, Pleasure Coma.

While their sound is familiar – common, if you will – I can’t pinpoint a band they remind me off. It meshes into the ever growing culture of alternative rock and has a spot among fellow upcomers. The Palpatines come to mind first, I can see other acts like Hockey Dad and Skegss joining that list as well. I can’t wait to see what Pleasure Coma bring to the table with the upcoming EP, Naked, but if this is any indication then it’s going to be very enjoyable.
