The amazing Mesmer album left an impression upon us with potent subject matter and powerful tracks. Northlane released Mesmer on 24th of March, giving us eleven moving pieces of metalcore.
“Colourwave” was a stand-out on Mesmer with its use of metaphor and how it has captured a sense of struggle.
“In my darkest days
I only saw the shades of grey
In a world that drips in colour”
Josh Smith shared with Teamrock that he wrote “Colourwave” about his battle with depression in his teens, and writing the song helped him come to terms with the dark time in his life. The song feels heavy and fraught, expressing some of that inner darkness. “Colourwave” also shares a powerful perspective by way of possibility.
“My life is what I make of my trials and mistakes
My life is what I make, I am what I createI am what I create
I am what I create
I am what I create”
