Northlane – Citizen (New Music)

Northlane have been generating a lot of hype and curiosity by releasing mind-bending teaser videos, inceptionesque images, as well as hosting a cryptic interactive Facebook chat.

The band released new single “Citizen” on 19th March, along with its music video, showing the band performing the song on a sparse set, influenced by changes in lighting. In the video it soon becomes apparent that the band are playing within a defined space.

The containment portrayed in the video is fitting for “Citizen”, given its lyric focus upon the deception of freedom we live within. Northlane seem to be asking for people to dig deeper, go down the metaphorical rabbit hole, and begin a revolution of awareness.

“Spied on, Lifelong, Collection 24/7 • Archives of all we’ve done
Satellites track our lives beyond the skies • Not even your mind
can hide From big brother’s eyes”

It’s an impressive track; awesomely djent heavy, a good blend of clean and unclean vocals, and an energetic sense of urgency in waking us all up.

Check out “Citizen” and tell us what you think on Facebook or Twitter.
