We’re not over Movements‘ Feel Something album yet (is anyone?). These eleven tracks are at once relatable, comforting and touching, all in their own way. The Orange County band of Patrick Miranda (vocals), Ira George (guitar), Spencer York (drums), and Austin Cressey (bass) aspired to have us literally ‘feel something’ – anything – and to not feel alone in how we feel. Our Track Of The Day is “Full Circle”, which does both of those things.
“Full Circle” is the album opener and is an expression of desperation in a state of depression, as well as offering a glimmer of hope, garnered from the belief in a cycle.
“This cycle comes full circle, again”
In our interview with Patrick, we spoke about “Full Circle” and he elaborated about the inspiration behind the track. He confirmed that it was written from the perspective of asking people to ‘hang in there’ along with him in his desperation.
In terms of the circle, Patrick shares his perspecive: “It’s almost like a ferris wheel, that’s how I like to describe it. My cycles of my depression, it’s always like this constant circle. There’s going to be the times where you’re at the top and you feel great, and things are going well, but eventually like you are going to swing back down and there’s not really anything you can do about that, just because it is a chemical imbalance.”
He added “Treatment and stuff will obviously help but there’s never going to be any avoiding it. Eventually you’re always going to be back down to the bottom of that wheel. BUT just like you’re always going to be back down to the bottom, you’re always going to swing back to the top. And no matter what, it’s this constant cycle, and that’s how I like to describe it and how I like to envision my mental illness; It’s a cycle, but it’s always going to come around.”
Creating a song from his own personal experiences, to remind anyone in the ‘down’ of the cycle that there’s also an ‘up’ to come is beautifully reassuring, and makes for a powerful listen.
Soak up “Full Circle” with its lyric video below. If you read our chat with Patrick, he also shared that the Movements videos are Patrick’s own work along with the help of Spencer. He was hoping to bring the songs to life as well as have all of us sing along at Movements’ shows. Of the videos, Patrick shared “Yeah we did them all by projector. It was pretty crazy. I probably spent way more time on them then I really should have. [laughs] It was fun.”
