Gravemind – Echo (New Music)

There’s a lot of buzz around Melbourne deathcore band Gravemind and their upcoming EP release The Deathgate. Complete with a mystery website (thedeathgate.com) that had been shared without explanation by many across the heavy music scene prior to the EP announcement. For the EP, Gravemind have created a mythology wherein an astronaut is exploring the world beyond The Deathgate

“Echo” is the second single from The Deathgate. It also features vocals from Aidan Ellaz of Alpha Wolf.

The track is heavy, curiously bombarding, with storyline rapidly unfolding, and attention pulled to multiple places as the ear tries to keep up. This side of The Deathgate seems fraught with confusion. Looking for guidance as opposed to uncomfortably repeating pain generationally.

“Oh pity to us
Our great gods are finer in robes of cotton
Of braille in bones
This blood and tears
I can feel each seam”

The momentary reprieve from the heaviness opens up into a sense of reluctant defeatedness by the patterns and the weight of ‘this is how it goes’. An inevitable and frustrating end (for now?).

The track ends swiftly; a hinting that we’ll be drawn into the next track and next chapter of The Deathgate.

The Deathgate drops 11th August and can be pre-ordered through iTunes: HERE. In the meantime, check out “Echo”.
