Dream Drop are Joar (vocals), Zorro (guitar), Edling (bass), Max (turntable/keyboard) and Olle (drums). Together, Dream Drop are a rock/metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, whose impressive sound and relatable lyrics have inspired a grassroots following, despite their own bios all over the internet describing themselves as a ‘shitty’ band and by saying: “We suck”.
But this is not quite correct. Dream Drop have music videos that have been viewed over 47,000 times, and there have been well over 200,000 streams of their music on Spotify. They’ve also performed in venues which were full to capacity. Clearly Dream Drop do not suck to have garnered such attention. Especially given they are relatively new to the scene.
Dream Drop released their debut EP (Dream Drop EP) on 3rd January 2016, with the track “A Letter To My Friends” released prior as a single on 13th December 2015. “A Letter To My Friends” starts with a light beat but grows into a heavy, and emotionally sung track. It has a feeling of angst, frustration and complication, expressed through the union of the four band members and their combined musical elements. The guys put their all into their music and it shows.
“A Letter To My Friends” is relatable by way of the lyrics; being about self-doubt and mentally stuck in a state of defeat:
“The less I sleep, the more I think
The more I think, the more I sink
And I hate this feeling of nothingness
My mind’s suppressed”“Get me out of this hell I’m in
Help me feel well again
So desperate to leave my head
Cos it’s lonely and cold in here
Whatever I do I fear that this ache will never end”
Dream Drop’s relatability due to their emotional lyrics shows up very clearly by way of fans sharing with them just how much their music helped them, having them not feel so alone in what they too were experiencing.
I have a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more from Dream Drop, and I hope they gain the recognition that they deserve. You can connect with the band on Twitter at https://twitter.com/dreamxdrop.
