Download Festival 2019 Information

Download Festival is upon us again! It kicks off in Sydney on 9th March at Parramatta Park, and then lands in Melbourne on 11th March at Flemington Racecourse. Here’s everything you’ll need to know about Download.

The Bands

Shared in three announcements, Download Festival Australia will include the following bands. Mid-February, headliner Ozzy Osbourne announced that he was no longer able to attend due to illness, with Airbourne joining the lineup. The solid line-up of veteran metal and rock bands and present day asskickers are:

Dates and Times

Download Sydney

Saturday 9 March 2019 at Parramatta Park. Gates open at 11.00am with music commencing at midday and going through until 11.00pm.

Download Melbourne
Monday 11 March 2019 (a public holiday!) at Flemington Racecourse. Gates open at 11.00am with music commencing at midday and going through until 10.00pm.

Getting There

Courtesy of the Download Festival organisers, we have the following details for making your way to the event. Their recommendation is that attendees use public transport.

Sydney

Train

Parramatta Park is a short walk from both Parramatta and Westmead train stations. Refer to Transport NSW to plan your trip.

If arriving at Parramatta station your best Park entrance is via George & O’Connell St gate.

If arriving at Westmead station your best Park entrance is via Macquarie St gate.

Bus

The Parramatta bus terminal is located next to the Parramatta train station in Darcy and Argyle Streets. Refer to Transport NSW to plan your trip.

The Parramatta Shuttle Bus is a free transport solution that connects tourists, residents and commuters to the commercial, retail and recreational landmarks of the city. It runs every 10 minutes, seven days a week.

The bus operates on a continuous loop around the citycentre, with three stops near Parramatta Park. For Download we recommend Stop 4 (O’Connell Street) – ideal for the Crescent event space.

Car

Due to the event taking place, there is no parking within the park grounds. For parking outside of the park, you can use this handy interactive map  made by local council to find the nearest options.
 
In addition to street parking, there are also various multi-story car parks available around the city within 500m walking distance of the park.

Melbourne

Train

Flemington Racecourse and Showgrounds stations:
Trains run throughout the day, departing from Flinders Street Station, stopping at Southern Cross and North Melbourne Stations before arriving at Flemington Racecourse railway station. Travel time is approximately 15 minutes.

Craigieburn Line:
Trains run to Ascot Vale and Newmarket stations. Connect with a tram or bus to the racecourse and showgrounds. It’s about a 500m walk from the station to Epsom Road.

Tram

The No. 57 tram runs from the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street directly to the Flemington Racecourse main gates on Epsom Rd. It’s about a 500m walk to Epsom Rd gate. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD.

Bus

The following bus routes travel close to the Racecourse (via Epsom Rd gates):
Route 404 (Footscray – Moonee Ponds via Newmarket)
Route 472 (Williamstown – Moonee Ponds
Services will operate to a normal weekend timetable.

Car

Limited car parking is available at Flemington Racecourse. The car park is located on Leonard Crescent. Parking is $20 per vehicle and is on a first come, first served basis.
 
If you are catching Uber or similar rideshare car, your best entrance is via Epsom Road gate.

Entrance & Arrival

To make things smooth upon arrival, the Download Festival organisers have shared the following details.

Sydney

Park entry is via Pitt & Macquarie St gate entrances and George & O’Connell St gate entrances. Once inside the park, Festival Entry is located across from the Old Government House building. This also includes express entry to RIP lanes and disability access lanes.
 
On arrival at the Festival gates, please have your Ticket and acceptable ID ready to be checked. You can either print your PDF ticket or display it on your phone. It is imperative you receive your festival wristband at the Gate entry. 
 
For your safety, bag searches and wanding will also take place at the festival entry gates. Please note any bags larger than 30cm x 20cm will need to be stored at on our onsite Cloakroom at the festival entry gate. 

Melbourne

There are two festival entrances at Download Melbourne. Both entrances include express entry RIP lanes in addition to disability access lanes.
 
Festival Entry 1 is located near the Flemington Train Station and is your best point of entry if coming by train or parking your car. 
 
Festival Entry 2 is located off Epsom Road and is your best point of entry if coming by foot, tram or share ride. 
 
On arrival at the Festival gates, please have your Ticket and acceptable ID ready to be checked. You can either print your PDF ticket or display it on your phone. It is imperative you receive your festival wristband at the Gate entry.
