Columbus – Downsides Of Being Honest (feat. John Floreani) (Track Of The Day, 20th February)

We’re still buzzing from seeing Columbus with Trophy Eyes on the Chemical Miracle tour, along with Our Past Days and Ambleside.

The alternative punk trio from Brisbane were not only really sweet and respectful on stage, all smiles and jokes, they also played a stellar set and are well worth checking out. The band are: Alex Moses, Daniel Seymour and Ben Paynter.

“I wish the bags under my eyes weren’t as heavy as my head”

We chose “Downsides Of Being Honest” featuring John Floreani (of Trophy Eyes) as Track Of The Day. This track is from their Home Remedy EP, released 2015. The song speaks about the pain of a breakup despite it being inevitable when things go cold.

Musically, “Downsides Of Being Honest” has a hectic ‘catch me if you can’ drum-fire and is strong from beginning to end, including John Floreani’s firey emotional passion at the bridge.

“Sometimes it’s hard,
thinking fuck letting go

of all the things you’ve held so tightly,
and that you’ll never know

How it feels to be loved by somebody else,
there’s a hole inside my chest that could never be filled”
