Casey – The Funeral (New Music)

Complimenting their poignant Where I Go When I Am Sleeping album, Welsh quintet Casey recently released a music video for “The Funeral”.  The artful video is the work of Martyna Wisniewska (aka gingerdope), who directed and edited a visual take of the moving song.

Leaning from subdued and melancholic observations through to searing tension, “The Funeral” follows an introspective thread throughout. A progressive sink from something momentarily peaceful into familiar sadness instead is captured in agonising lyrical detail; where it’s more than just a mood shift, but a mood shift that sparks a downward spiral of questions of what this darkness may result in in the future. The track is drenched with the perceived burden to others of one’s internal neverending storm, and the self-judgement tinged observations of the lengths one is going to, to find something good.

Imagery capturing male and female figures, alone in contemplation or darkness, beautifully expresses the emotion that “The Funeral” evokes. Reflection and observation turns colder and more oppressive and disturbing, leading to destruction and collapse.
