Carousel Kings have delved into a realm of empowered possibility with their album concept of Charm City.
Vocalist David Alexander describes ‘Charm City’ as “the place where I go in my dreams”, and wants for listeners to realise “that they too can envision and live in their own ‘Charm City’ whenever they want to.”
The Charm City concept seems as much escapism as empowerment, seeking to inspire change from within; which is what Carousel Kings are specifically speaking about in our Track Of The Day, “Dynamite”.
“I’m contemplating on too much
There’s no more time for second chances
Retrograde the sky, awaken my third eye
I’ve been reflecting on a lot
Don’t waste your time trying to control me
Terminate the mind, awaken from inside”
On “Dynamite”, David shared that the song was written as an expression of the band’s thoughts/distaste/unhappiness about the current state of affairs. He described it as “a call for all who hear it to look inward for the answers pertaining to how we can possibly change the world we live in”.
Musically, “Dynamite” is brilliantly heavy and hurried in the verses, adding to that sense of frustration, and leaving the space wide open for the melodic and questioning chorus to be catchy and stuck in our heads.
