Today’s Track Of The Day is a slice of pop punk from As It Is and their album okay. (released 20th January). Hailing from Brighton (UK) As It Is are Patty Walters (vocals), Benjamin Biss (vocals, guitar), Andy Westhead (guitar), Alistair Testo (bass) and Patrick Foley (drums).
As It Is’ collection of tracks on okay. covered a range of emotional experiences. In our review, we summed it up by describing the album as a “handbook describing the adventures and the challenges of life, with honesty about all of those things laid bare, with a whole lot of acceptance for those admissions and emotions.”
Patty Walters shared that “Pretty Little Distance” is a song about coping: “It’s about relying on a more convenient and comfortable reality when the world becomes too much. While this can be an inviting way of dealing with living, it’s ultimately temporary, a pause button until the turbulence is either resumed or overcome.”
“Ain’t life swell from a pretty little distance?
I don’t want to leave, I don’t want to stay
Why look twice at a beautiful existence?”
This is an upbeat pop punk track, yet with an undercurrent of discomfort relating to facing reality behind the smile. Check out “Pretty Little Distance” with its music video or stream on Spotify.
