All Time Low – Birthday (New Music)

Baltimore pop punks All Time Low have released a music video for “Birthday”. The single comes coupled with “Everything Is Fine” as a two-track release, fittingly called Everything Is Fine On Your Birthday, that’ll be printed to vinyl in a limited run of just 2,500 (catch that at http://alltimelow.com/store). The two singles follow on from the band’s 2017 Last Young Renegade album; their seventh full length release, which hit chart heights in UK and US, and won Rock Sound’s album of the year award.

With “Birthday”, the four piece of Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson, and Zack Merrick give us toothaching slice of yearning, where their craving for another has them both sweetly delighted and frustratingly tortured. Listen to this once and it’ll be in your head with its catchy singalong anthemic choruses, and the excruciating adoration shared carefully in the verses.

With ‘bah-dum-bah-dum-bah’ vocals, harmonies and playful sonic accents, “Birthday” is as sickly sweet and nostalgic as you’d expect. And much like the pastel-iced cake featured in the music video, you’ll probably want seconds.

And speaking of the music video, the cake metaphor is taken as far as possible by director PTracy, with the members of the four piece held captive in perfect soft hues; tied up and unable to reach the object of their desires. The multiple tiers of sponge cake are finally savoured ravenously.

Check out “Birthday” via YouTube, an enjoyable ride of infatuation in its sweet simplicity.
