Our Track Of The Day today is a brand new one from alternative rock band After Change. The Adelaide based four piece of Dan, Goose, Jed and Declan released “Too Close To Home” this week, the first single in the lead-up to the September release of their debut EP; Feelin’ Fine.
Feelin’ Fine‘s promo material uses typewriters, letters, and scrunched up paper. “Too Close To Home” is itself an open letter, of unresolved and long-standing pain.
The searching sound feels like something tentatively put out there, in the hopes of resolving the pain, yet not holding much hope for a resolution, and also not wanting to further injure the situation.
“You know I need to hear you say
The words you never will”
There’s anger here, with this sense of being trapped within pain and having no means of actually moving through to the other side of it. The other side is needed, but may never come.
“Too Close To Home” is a powerful track and I’m already keen for checking out the other letters which may come via Feelin’ Fine.
