Track Of The Day comes from Melbourne melodic hardcore/spoken word five piece Aburden. We’ve fallen in ‘wow’ with their sound after a listen of their EP My Old Friend (released 18th May). We intend to write more on that soon.
But in the meantime, we wanted to share Aburden’s track “Without Me”.
As well as having an amazing one-take video filmed in Birrarung Marr along the Yarra River in Melbourne on a beautiful day, “Without Me” is a great song.
The soaring sound and the combination of the spoken vocals as well as cleanly sung vocals give “Without Me” a full spectrum of feeling. Kyle’s (clear) vocal tone carries a hint of Layne Staley, and pairs perfectly with Mason’s emotionally screamed fire. Both are held supported in an impressive musical framework that feels seeking as well as heavy.
“You feel in love with my desperation,
Hoping you don’t fall into my depression,
The comfort and regret of losing you,
I can’t explain myself,
Don’t know what the fuck I am trying to do.”
“Without You” feels like a painful dissection of an emotional disconnect of a relationship. Both the confusion-heavy speech and long-held notes brilliantly capture all the differing aspects that go on in such an experience.
Love this track, and looking forward to sharing more of Aburden with you soon.
