Voyager – Ascension (New Music)

In-cred-i-ble. We’re in love. Eargasms galore.

What kind of sorcery is this?

Voyager have released a new video and song, “Ascension”, in the lead up to their 6th album, Ghost Mile. It is to be heard to be believed. In fact “Ascension” is fitting; this is enlightenment via the ears.

Voyager start off gently, tickling our senses with a light introduction, before building up into a complicated and captivating dance of guitars and drums. It’s a dance of waves, and to-ing and fro-ing, relaxing and resisting. Soon the vocals ring out with a commanding presence.

As there’s an edging toward the chorus (“You know its hard”), with a lifting of sound, it’s just too perfect for words with the combination of all parts of the Voyager collective working hard simultaneously toward the point of the chorus, which very coolly has a whisper of an 80s vibe to it, vocally speaking.

It’s far to go
We’ve said it for too long
So far to fall
We’re going it alone”

“Ascension” set off a series of goosebumps with its otherworldly sound being firmly anchored to the ground by growls and a drum focus through those sweet waves of sound. We can barely believe our ears.

And that ending: Completely unexpected and completely brilliant way to end this experience.

The music video (directed by Adrian Goleby) only adds to the mind-blowingness, supporting the performance of each component of Voyager.
