Finding amazing new music unexpectedly is one of my favourite things. Alternative/rock four piece Speech Patterns and their track “Déjà Vu” is just that.
This track is so smooth and beautiful, the ocean visual they’ve used with the track is perfect. It fits also with the lyrical content: waves of an off-an-on relationship, maybe a little seasick from being thrown around in a rough emotional surf.
The vocals express relationship anguish and betrayal and morph from questioning confrontation to light calls in the bridge. The majority of the song has melodic guitars, evolving into heavy guitars and drums toward the song as it escalates, seeming to match the emotional pain.
Can you say that again?
Darling, you said, “Well, I swear I told you the truth.”
Your memory is haunting me, baby
So trivial, yet pivotal
It’s just so good, and one I keep coming back to again and again. You can check out the lyric video below and see what you think.
Speech Patterns are also hinting at something new in January, which has got us excited too!
