From the ashes of now defunct Brighthaven comes a phoenix in the form of Noija.
Noija are Nick Serlstedt (vocals), Daniel Lundgren (drums), Max Mauritsson (bass) and Ludvig Ottosson (guitar). The Swedish alternative rock four piece have been working behind the scenes, and are now ready to reveal their debut single, “Unknown” along with a music video.
“Unknown” immediately sparks a sensation of duskiness as a person attempts to learn who they are. Gentle electro and orchestral rock sound expands into massiveness as they admit they ‘don’t want to be saved’, rendering them uncomfortably stuck.
They are captive and contained in darkness and trying to make sense of their contradictory self, yet not wanting to harm another in the process of their struggle with their own identity.
“I’m a mess, I’m a beautiful mess
I’ve been a fellow friend with my demons for so long
Worn a mask, it doesn’t fit at all
I made myself believe that I’m here for something”
There are beautiful moments of peacefulness and vulnerability in the midst of the solid bombardment, showcasing Noija’s capabilities. The entire track, in however the band are choosing to express themselves, is strong and an incredible taster of what’s to come.
There’s no firm resolution with this, with it clear that there is contentment in the differences and disconnection: ‘Let me remain the unknown’.
