I See Stars‘ album Treehouse gets heavy rotation at Depth Mag HQ. We vibe with the heaviness as well as the electronic accents that Brent, Andrew, Devin and Jeff bring, with their electronic hardcore sound.
Today’s Track Of The Day is “Everyone’s Safe in the Treehouse”, which is the fourth track from Treehouse.
“Everyone’s Safe in the Treehouse” starts lightly but ominously. When the vocals, drums and guitars join in, adding more depth of seriousness, the story starts to unfold. Devin sings about high expectations of how things would be that have progressively warped and lost their shine.
“Are you alive or are you just living?”
It’s not just about Devin (or whomever the ‘character’ is in the song), but also about the other person involved here and a sense of convincing them to break free of destructive patterns. They’re described as not listening, and holding onto a facade of things instead of changing into something real. Referring to ‘we built our house in a tree’ may be speaking of younger selves that made dreamy future plans as kids that were unrealistic, and encouraging the empowerment of building of something new (‘we build the roads we walk upon’).
