Earth Caller – I Am No Good (New Music)

Melbourne based Earth Caller have just released “I Am No Good”. The new single had its debut on Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud last night, and will get its official live launch next month when the quartet hit Stay Gold in Melbourne with Wither, Heists, Rumours, and ATLVS.

As a song, “I Am No Good” seems blunt and dark, with no room for ambiguity, reinforced by the dark imagery of its music video (directed by Adrian Juric). Vocalist Josh Collard is blindfolded and panicked and makes his way through a forest. He comes face to face with an entity resembling Death, indicating that his time is up. “I Am No Good” doesn’t offer up any happy endings, visually or otherwise, painting a pretty dark picture.

But immediate impressions aside, the track is multi-layered in what it shares. It captures the inner experience of what it’s like to be struggling with mental health, which will be relatable to many. “I Am No Good” also offers an invitation for those who feel “dead inside like me” to take the song as their own and “break your fucking neck to this shit”. With confessions of failings and offering apology, Earth Caller are also shining a light on what the impact can be upon loved ones when we go through a hard time.

I’m loving the fresh track’s hectic intensity and erratic moments along with such a full and soaring chorus. While not officially tied in to an EP or album as yet, it’ll be interesting to see what else is ahead in 2019 for Earth Caller.
