What We’ve Been Listening To

What we listen to is a fairly intimate thing, yeah? Well, we’re going to go intimate. Right here, right now. As a way for readers to get to know the people behind Depth Mag a bit better, we thought we’d share our most-listened-to songs over the last 6 months.

Who’s the resident Trophy Eyes fankid? Who adores a bit of pop? Who’s into the heavier stuff? Should we become a Thornhill or Trophy Eyes fanzine? All of these questions and more will be answered below. Scope out what your favourite music writers and gig photographers are listening to with our current top ten most-played lists.

Kel Burch – Editor & Writer

  • 生 Conform 死 – Blood Eagle
  • Greyhaven – Echo and Dust Pt. I
  • Statues – Defiance
  • The Gloom In The Corner – War
  • Greyhaven – Ten Dogs – Red Heaven
  • Thornhill – Limbo
  • Tapestry – Dark Shade
  • Thornhill – Parasite
  • Underoath – I Gave Up
  • Underoath – ihateit

Kel says: “This is a good snapshot of what I listen to. Each track comes from some really great albums and EPs I’ve had the pleasure to review. I was too late to the party to review Statues’ No Grave, No Burial unfortunately.. but maybe I can do something on the album down the track, because that is one heck of a journey. I’m a fan of heavy stuff that’s interesting or makes me feel something. I’ve no idea why the best songs seem to be about war or sad things…”

Josh Hockey – Writer

  • Trophy Eyes – Hurt
  • Hellions – X (Mwah)
  • Trophy Eyes – Chlorine
  • Trophy Eyes – You Can Count On Me
  • Ambleside –  Blur
  • Thornhill – Reptile
  • Trophy Eyes – Breathe You In
  • Thornhill – Sunflower
  • Belle Haven – You
  • Polaris – The Remedy

Josh says: “Bet you can’t tell I really love Trophy Eyes, hey?  This top 10 really just shows what stuff I’ve really dug this year so far. Trophy Eyes and Thornhill have been huge. As have Belle Haven. I’m surprised there isn’t more from them honestly. “X (Mwah)” is up there for song of the year, as is “Blur”. “Blur” is what got me into Ambleside properly, as I hadn’t really bothered to check out their back catalogue until “Blur” captured my heart. And of course, arguably the best song of 2017, “The Remedy” had to make an appearance. What a track that is! That’s me though: Lots of Trophy Eyes and lots of similar artists. My listening patterns are odd but when I like something I flog it.”
