Melbourne’s caution:thieves have announced that their third EP, The Blueprint For Moving Forward, is on the way! The news comes in conjunction with the release of “Somewhere Bright”; the second single released from the upcoming EP. First single “Standing Room” released in February.
Described by the band as “Raw, aggressive, frenetic and vulnerable”, the intriguingly titled EP seems like it may be as therapeutic as it is a creative expression. “Somewhere Bright” is a fiercer and faster take than the previous single, and comes across heavy, hectic, and frustrated from its introduction. The song’s metaphorical fists that punch at the verses soften to open palms at the chorus. Lyrically, “Somewhere Bright” seems to be asking for another to have faith in them and their way of doing things, instead of heading to an ending of disintegration.
“Somewhere Bright” comes at the listener with slamming riffs and intensity, and vocals that veer from fierce to pleading. An open instrumental section of tentative (or combative, even!) rhythms prefaces a moment where things feel cleaner, more reflective, and brighter. With the intensity lowered and the noise pared back, we are up front and personal with what feels like one last request to be believed in.
“Somewhere Bright” ends soaringly with gang vocals on board and the return of that infectious chorus, feeling far more optimistic and united than the tension that existed at its beginning.
