Melbourne’s Bury The Kings have announced a new EP on the way, and have celebrated the news by sharing the first single, “Take Me With You”.
The EP, entitled V, is described as a concept EP dealing with the five stages of grief. V releases on May 18th, and was produced, mixed, and mastered by Scottie Simpson (Alpha Wolf) who has also worked with bands such as Death In Bloom, The Gloom in the Corner, and Gravemind.
According to Wojtek Tomczyk (guitar), the concept EP aims to have the lyrical content and music correspond with a particular stage of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance), as they explore the experience of loss.
By way of the first single, “Take Me With You” explores the ‘bargaining’ stage, where someone is offering to replace the deceased with their own life. Muffled and distorted riffs blaze out widely into fierceness, with Bury The Kings fiercely demanding to make sense of what’s happened.
“I don’t know what else I’m supposed to do,
I’ll put an end to myself”
In amongst the blistering fury, “Take Me With You” shares a peaceful moment, where clean vocals and soaring sound search for answers. The track then builds up into frustration at the impossibility of the painful situation where they’re not able to say goodbye.
V is available for pre-order on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Bandcamp now. Check out “Take Me With You” via the music video below, or stream via Spotify. You can also find the track on our Spotify playlist: The Depth List: 2018.
