We asked you what your favourite releases of 2020 were, and you made it clear! With the most votes we’ve ever had, both Album Of The Year and EP Of The Year winners stood out above the pack in the votes, and were releases we thoroughly enjoyed too.
Album Of The Year 2020
With the top three being Ocean Grove‘s Flip Phone Fantasy, Justice For The Damned‘s Pain Is Power, and Polaris‘s The Death Of Me, the winner was:
Taking the success of The Mortal Coil and exploring their sound a little wider, The Death Of Me took listeners into satisfying wildness and also contemplative searches for clarity. With anthems for the jaded, explosive beastly tunes, as well as some surprise softness, when Polaris were congruent, they absolutely nailed it. Every song seems crafted to delight huge and attentive audiences, which is hopefully not something we have to wait too long to experience again.
EP Of The Year 2020
With the top three being Future Static‘s Fatalist, Without Belief‘s The Parting Gift, and Anticline‘s Urgency, the winner was:
Coming with a buzzing electrical current of potential, Urgency was a solid snapshot of Anticline’s capabilities. With impressive production, the Ballarat band drew us into the states of mind and emotion that were being expressed in the six songs of the EP. Unified and conscious of what they’re creating, this collective are just getting started.
Thank you all for your votes! This year has been incredibly tough for us and our team. Every crumb of encouragement and appreciation has been welcomely received. We also appreciated your helpful feedback about what we do with Depth and what more you’d like to see in 2021.
