If you didn’t know, it’s Alpha Wolf day. Or Mono day anyway. Alpha Wolf’s brilliant album Mono dropped today and there has been a whole lot of love for these twelve tracks of heaviness. Since it’s pretty much all I’ve been listening to today, I figure I might as well end this day celebrating with an Alpha Wolf Track Of The Day.
“#104” was the first single from Mono to be released, giving a hint at what was to come. And it’s an impressive taster indeed.
Put simply, “#104” is exceptional from end to end and captures Alpha Wolf in full flight. The opening riff plunges you into the thick of it:
“It’s live alone and die.
With my heart on the outside.”
Raw pain, pure and simple.
“#104” asks you to keep up with the chaos and quick-fire lyrics. It’s intense and agonising. And it should be, given the fact it is speaking about the overwhelming experience of grief.
The downward dragging heaviness feels like it moves into loss of self, and the vocals become desperate and grasping for answers, more and more hopeless, veering into extreme ideas of something, anything to cope.
“Maybe I should just you know..
Click back, barrel to the head?
Maybe wrap some wire around the neck?
Suicide mosaic, make art with me.
God without you I’m so lonely.”
It’s a raw and real track from these guys (not to mention engaging and interesting sonically through the entire track) and the bravery in sharing honestly is impressive.
The track rocks. Give some love to “#104” and then go stream the rest of Mono if you dig it.
